The Mixer
Welcome to Hopwoods Tap House, a lively pub-style restaurant tucked into Church Street, Preston, where casual meets character. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by wood-panel walls, warm lighting, and a buzz of conversation that makes it feel like a local favourite rather than a chain.
The menu is built around crowd-pleasers—burgers, steaks, loaded fries, and sharing platters—but many dishes carry small touches that tell you the kitchen cares. I tried their signature burger, which came stacked and juicy, with a brioche bun that stood up to the sauces rather than turning soggy. A friend ordered the grilled halloumi and root-veg salad, which balanced flavours well and showed the veggie side wasn’t ignored. Portions are generous without being wasteful.
Drinks are a major asset here. Their beer list includes local craft ales alongside familiar labels, offering a good mix for enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike. Cocktails are well crafted—and served with flair—while the wine selection covers both red and white options that suit hearty mains or lighter plates. Staff are quite helpful in pairing drinks with food, which I’ve found in many reviews contributes to guest satisfaction and trust.
What really sells this place is consistency and atmosphere. On a busy Friday night, service remained steady; nobody waited overly long and the team checked in without being intrusive. The décor is unpretentious but comfortable, and music levels are friendly to conversation. Locals often cite Hopwoods Tap House as a go-to spot for relaxed meals with friends or casual dates. For those seeking a trustworthy dining location with solid food, good drink choices, and a welcoming vibe, this spot delivers.

Lovely roast. Best roast potatoes! Went here on the off chance. Very busy but was lucky the staff were really accomodating & got us in. Recommend to book beforehand.
Had one of the best roast dinners here. Lots of food and roast potatoes cooked in beef dripping
Service was pretty poor, had booked but took an hour to get ours to the table, had other people's food brought to our table, but can forgive all of that because the food was AMAZING , best ever roast potatoes. Forgive the service, the meal is worth the wait.
Quirky place. Best home roast dinner ever! Their meat is from Pickett's butchers and is real quality. Their vegetables are freshly cooked and very tasty. Super Yorkshire puds and gravy.
Delicious roast pork dinner, roast potatoes to die for. Good value for money. Friendly staff. Fantastic live music. Old/chic decor, not to everyone's taste. Busy and loud...but fun.
